ANNA MARGOLINA
/
ONE ENDLESS NIGHT
The debut album from jazz singer Anna Margolina is a personal remembrance of her immigration story from Minsk to Berlin. After 30 years it shares Anna`s experience of abandonment and loneliness, the search for new identity and a sense of belonging. More than ever, there is need for a hopeful story of arrival.
"Though not without its somber moments, One Endless Night presents a balanced, primarily positive exploration of Margolina’s immigration experience. Its thematic strength, combined with compelling vocal performance and the accompanying musicians’ skilled improvisation, make it an album worth experiencing." — The Jazz World
Anna Margolina was born into a musical family in Minsk where she lived until the age of 8. In 1992 her mother set out on a journey of no return to Berlin, changing the course of fate dramatically. For many years, Anna struggled to adapt to the mentalities surrounding her, finding it difficult to feel true connection. The singer defines this search as the center of her musical career.
Composed and arranged by fellow world wanderer Conor Cantrell, the songs are beautifully framed by the talents of Kenneth Berkel (piano), Lisa Buchholz (flugelhorn), Hendrik Nehls (bass) and David Guy (drums). The singer's story has been beautifully transformed into words and sounds, opening up a much broader perspective, than that of a typical biography.

Among the tracks "Cold Waters" stands out, capturing a profound sense of alienation and emotional isolation prevalent in today's society. The song uses the metaphor of being a lone island amidst dark, cold waters - embodied by the brilliant performance of Sarah Nevada (Music Video by Iliès Terki / Idle Filmes).
