feat. Ingrid Jensen
/
Released on the 24th of MAY 2024 at XJAZZ! MUSIC:
INNER VOICE is the sixth album release by the Hungarian jazz singer and composer Júlia Karosi. The 42-year-old exceptional musician fuses contemporary jazz compositions, folk song arrangements, and classical music into a harmonious and profound work of art, in a unique kaleidoscope. Her artistic vision not only bridges genre boundaries, but also cultural and musical traditions. The variety of sounds on the album is reinforced by the very intimate and direct atmosphere of the album.
The largest part of the album is a vocal-piano duo, which consists the compositions and arrangements of Júlia Karosi, and the Estonian pianist and composer Kristjan Randalu.
“Kristjan Randalu’s music and playing have been an important inspiration for me for years. The way he improvises on classical music it’s really unique, and his own compositions reveal a very special universe. I’ve been following Ingrid Jensen’s work for a long time, I consider her a wonderful artist who added her beautiful sound and sensitive musicality to this album.”
The album is a sonic declaration of love and an experimental combination of traditional, classical and jazz that does not yet exist in this form. The musicians weaves together in a harmonious combination of melancholy and hope, and in every note you can feel the depth of their emotions and the virtuosity of their skills.
With this album, Karosi opens up a new dimension of music that touches the soul and inspires the spirit. It is an ode to the beauty of music and a timeless testament to its universal language.
ABOUT JÚLIA:
Júlia Karosi is one of Hungary’s top jazz vocalists. After graduating from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest, Júlia founded her own quartet in 2010. Hidden Roots (released in March, 2014 by Dot Time Records, New York) was her second CD as a leader and the follow-up to the successful Stroller of the City Streets (released in February, 2012 by Whereabouts Records, Japan). Hidden Roots contains a number of Júlia’s original compositions and as the name eludes to, arrangements of Hungarian folk songs.
Júlia Karosi had a classical training which is evident not only in her impeccable technique and expressive tonalities, but in her choice of repertoire and musical universe as well. Beside her own compositions, the singer is keen to select folk songs and songs by composers such as Béla Bartók, Zoltán Kodály, George Gershwin, or Stephen Sondheim – but always keeps her personal story in the forefront expressed through the devices of jazz music.
