MARLEEN DAHMS`Alloy

Running And Belonging

“ALLOY” is the melting together of five musicians, becoming a strong, melodious and rough body of sound. Reflecting her love for lyrical trombonists, melancholic guitar trios, Afro-Latin rhythms, Black US- American music traditions and improvised music, the compositions of bandleader and trombonist Marleen Dahms express an urge to connect with emotions through music. Her first album „Running and Belonging “ is a reflection on identity, the worlds order and disorder, present responsibilities and the searching for home.

The Berlin based band brings together musicians from various musical scenes: trombone - Marleen Dahms (Berlin/Barcelona), trumpet - Lisa Buchholz (Berlin), guitar – Johannes Mann (New York/Berlin), doublebass -  Luca Curcio (Copenhagen/Berlin), drums - Steven Moser (Berlin, Vienna) and featured percussionist Afrogame (Salvador de Bahia/Leipzig) and flutist Vincent Bababoutilabo (Berlin).

Marleen Dahms is a Berlin based trombonist, improviser and composer. Besides her quintet „ALLOY“ for which she composes, she also plays with numerous bands all over Europe, from experimental large ensembles, small jazz groups to Salsa bands or well known pop artists. She lived in various countries (Spain, Ecuador, Switzerland, Germany) that influenced her musical language. Her fierce, intuitive and expressive playing mirrors her urge to process emotions through music and enables her to feel comfortable in various musical contexts.

„Marleen Dahms is not only a  Powerhaus on the trombone, but also when it comes to social commitment.“ Rbb
