Samson Philipps is a Zurich-based duo of Philipp Bucholtz (keys, synths) and Samuel Schmassmann (drums). Their sound sits in nu-jazz, with influences from drum & bass, trip-hop, funk, jazz, psychedelia and ambient. Their impressive debut album "Once Upon A Now" (2026, XJAZZ! Music) places them within a new wave of young jazz artists who see dancefloor culture and tradition as a mutually inspiring symbiosis. Recorded in summer 2025 in their own rehearsal space in Zurich — in sessions often lasting up to 16 hours — it creates a spacious, cinematic soundscape.
