Shane Quartet

Swiss saxophone collective of two tenors, bass and drums playing without a harmonic instrument in the spirit of Ornette Coleman.

Shane Quartet is a Swiss collective whose sound recalls the classic saxophone trio: two tenor saxophones, double bass and drums, with no harmonic instrument and therefore maximum agility. The band comprises tenor saxophonists Gabriel Wenger and Christoph Huber, bassist Jérémie Kruettli and drummer Philipp Leibundgut; it has no leader but four composers. On their second album "Zukunft" (2022, XJAZZ! Music) the two tenor players don't engage in a "tenor battle" but move like two perfectly coordinated dancers — in complexly winding lines in the spirit of Ornette Coleman, exploring the physical laws of consonance and dissonance.
